Integrating university branding into a research initiative

Purdue Life Sciences is a strategic initiative by Purdue University to advance research that improves lives around the world. The initiative includes multidisciplinary research institutes, advanced instrumentation and facilities across campus. To create a distinctive brand for the combined institutes, we leaned into Purdue’s secondary colors of teal, green and blue, while incorporating the university’s primary palette of gold and black.

Spanning 30 departments across six colleges, Purdue’s neuroscience enterprise provides a deep pool of expertise with more than 160 researchers in areas such as genetics, aging, trauma, development and neuroengineering. Purdue Life Sciences | Brochure

In Indiana, the Purdue University Life Sciences Initiative plays a critical role in growing the biosciences economy. Companies can contract with Purdue to access advanced instrumentation and technical expertise that the companies don’t have onsite. This brochure was geared toward prospective corporate clients. We highlighted the university’s accomplishments in commercialization and spotlighted some of the available facilities.

Purdue Center for Cancer Research | Report

The Purdue Center for Cancer Research receives funding each year from the Elks of Indiana, a philanthropic organization that funds high-risk, high-reward research. As part of the Elks’ annual conference, we created a brochure highlighting funded research projects from the previous year. The cover design features backward and forward capital Cs (representing the words “Cancer Center”), with a duotone image of cancer cells. The dot pattern, which was a varnish applied during printing, is a stylized representation of molecules.

Purdue Life Sciences | Open House Program

The Purdue University Life Sciences Initiative held an open house to celebrate the renovation of the Hall for Discovery and Learning Research. Inside the printed program, we provided annotated maps of renovated floors for reception guests. The cover of the program featured blueprints of one of the floors, along with a stylized double helix on the spine.

When the Zika virus began making headlines and travelers became concerned about visiting hot spots, we partnered with a Purdue entomologist to develop a tip sheet on ways that people can protect themselves from mosquito bites. The infographic is available for download from the Purdue Extension Education Store.
